Fagradalsfjall Volcano: Everything you need to know
Guide to Visiting Iceland’s newest Volcano
Why Visit Fagradalsfjall Volcano?
When I planned my trip to Iceland last year, I had absolutely no clue that I’d have the opportunity to visit an active volcano. When I heard the news of the eruption in March, I initially thought it might be worth checking out if we could work it into our existing itinerary. Although inspired by pictures and videos of the eruption over the next few weeks, I decided to scrap my first day plans and visit the volcano as soon as I was cleared from quarantine.
When I finally came over the ridge and saw the Volcano for the first time, I stopped and gazed in awe. None of the pictures or videos I saw before arriving prepared me for seeing the eruption in person. Seeing the Volcano was such a unique experience that I would recommend making a trip to Iceland to see, even if only to visit Fagradalsfjall. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, not only seeing a Volcano but such a rare and primitive form of Volcano known as a Tuya. According to experts, this eruption shows no sign of stopping soon, so there is still time to make the trip. One thing to be sure of — no picture or video can come anywhere near the feeling of seeing the eruption in person.
